Buying a used car in Castellón as a Romanian: help in your own language

9 min read · General Car's · Used cars in Castellón for the Romanian community

Castellón de la Plana is home to one of the largest Romanian communities in Spain: around 15,700 Romanians in the city and tens of thousands across the province. If you are one of them, you know how important a reliable car is: for work, for the kids, for longer trips and, now and then, for driving back home to Romania. At General Car's we work with your fellow Romanians every day and we guide you through the whole process in Romanian, so you understand every line of the contract and drive away with peace of mind, no surprises.

We help you in Romanian

The worst thing that can happen when buying a car is signing something you did not fully understand. In Spanish, terms like garantía, transferencia, TIN or TAE can be confusing even for someone who gets by well in daily life. At General Car's you can handle everything in Romanian: from which car suits you, to what the warranty covers, how financing works and what fees apply to the transfer.

For us this is not just a convenience, it is a matter of trust. We want you to understand exactly what you are buying, what you are paying and what rights you have. When something is explained in your own language, you ask more easily, you negotiate more calmly and you avoid misunderstandings. And if you come with your partner or a friend who knows cars, even better: we help them too.

You also have Carmen, our virtual assistant available 24 hours a day, who also speaks Romanian. You can ask her late in the evening, after hours, any detail about a car in our catalogue: price, mileage, year, whether it can be financed. She answers straight away so you arrive at the showroom with a clear idea.

Legal warranty, VAT included, no surprises

One of the biggest differences between buying from a proper dealer and buying "from a private seller on a group" is the protection you get. In Spain, when you buy a used car from a professional, the law gives you a minimum legal warranty of 1 year. It covers defects that already existed at the time of purchase, even if they were not visible at first glance. Between private individuals that warranty does not exist: if the car breaks down a week later, you are left alone with the problem.

At General Car's the price you see includes VAT (IVA) and we always give you an invoice and a clear contract, with the car's details, the price and the warranty terms in writing. We do not work with "window prices" that mysteriously grow at the end. What you see is what you pay.

Why does this matter especially for someone who has come from another country? Because an informal private sale leaves you with no safety net: no warranty, often no verified history, and the risk of a car with charges, seizures or a "clocked" odometer. Buying from a dealer means a checked car, a history verified through the DGT report and all the paperwork in order. You can read more in our guide on buying a used car with warranty and in the main article on used cars in Castellón.

Bank financing explained for Romanian residents

The most common worry we hear from Romanian customers sounds something like this: "I don't have a long credit history in Spain. Will anyone finance me?" The good news is that, in many cases, yes. Financing at General Car's is always through a bank, and banks in Spain look mainly at your current income and its stability, not so much at how many years of history you have.

What matters most for approval:

Instalments can run up to 96 months (8 years), depending on the bank's approval. One important thing to know from the start: cars up to around 11-12 years old can be financed. Older cars are usually bought outright, in cash or by bank transfer. We tell you clearly, car by car, whether it can be financed or not, so you don't get your hopes up for nothing.

We do not promise "instalments directly with us" or credit without a bank: everything goes through a financial institution, correctly and transparently. If you want to understand the interest rate (TIN), the APR (TAE) and how to choose the right instalment, read our guide on used car financing.

Paperwork without stress: transfer, cambio de nombre and ITV

The second big worry is the paperwork. The Spanish system has its steps, and when you are working all day you don't feel like queueing at the DGT (the Spanish traffic authority). The good news: at General Car's we handle the admin for you and explain every step in Romanian.

Here is what it involves, in short:

In short, you leave here with the car ready to drive, in your name and with all the paperwork in order. No wasted trips and no fighting bureaucracy on your own in a language that is not yours.

Frequently asked questions

Do you speak Romanian? (Vorbiți românește?)

Yes. We help you in Romanian throughout the whole process: choosing the car, understanding the contract, the warranty and financing terms and the paperwork. You can talk to the team in the showroom or to Carmen, our 24/7 virtual assistant, who also answers in Romanian.

Can I get financing without a long credit history in Spain?

In many cases, yes. Banks in Spain look mainly at your current income and its stability: your work contract (contrato) and payslip (nómina) count more than a long history. A permanent contract or seniority with the same employer helps a lot. Financing is always through a bank and subject to the bank's approval.

Up to what age can a car be financed?

As a general rule, banks finance cars up to around 11-12 years old, in instalments of up to 96 months, subject to approval. Older cars are usually bought outright (cash or bank transfer). We tell you clearly, for each car, whether it can be financed or not.

Do you help with the transfer (cambio de nombre) and the ITV?

Yes. We handle the transfer at the DGT (cambio de nombre), check that the ITV (roadworthiness test) is valid and hand over the car with all the paperwork in order, ready to drive in your name. We explain every step and every fee, in Romanian too.
